Story

A soft light spills across the murky ocean floor.

Then the sea begins to bubble and seethe, bubble and seethe in time with a rhythm pulsing subtly at the edge of hearing.

This place has little time remaining. Sleep will fade, and this ephemeral world with it.

"We are always within reach."

Leviathan, dubbed a demon in some lands, smiles.

She speaks true. We can meet her kind anytime so long as mortals retain the power of imagination.

"Your eyes shine gloriously, O unyielding ones."

It seems Leviathan has deemed you worthy.

The sea floor sways. Glancing up, you realize
the tremendous water pressure from above
has vanished.

Is that...sky? A swiftly rising sun bathes the
world in dazzling morning light.

"The Maker awakens. Fantasy shall fade back
to reality."

Fantasy is the above of Leviathan and her kin,
it seems.

The are spirits without form or substance,
dispatched across the broad bridge of faith.

They are another breed of deity,
created by the Maker.
Fantasy is but a shrine to these gods of fancy.

StrategyEdit

There are three main strategies to defeat Leviathan. They are listed by the the skill involved, and ordered from easiest to hardest. There are videos online demonstrating each of these methods.

Defense -20%, Dragon Edit

This is Grace's J3-65 ability. She also should slot her Megabow, Area (1) ability (or Poison Arrows, Area (1)). With it, Leviathan Omega can be killed in 2 turns easily. There is a setup required to activate Grace's skill 4 times on the first move, and then one more activation will kill Leviathan on the second turn. To do so, all 6 squad members must be ready to pincer Leviathan and the four minions, with Grace being one of the characters in the bottom row. While setting up, you have to move Grace into her position, and she must be able to kill the minions that she is pincering in order to hit 4 activations. On the second turn, pincer Leviathan Omega with Grace, and she will kill Leviathan as that is the turn when Leviathan's Defense is reduced to 0. Her Area attack will guarantee a kill.

NOTE: with update 4.0.0, stat reduction skills will no longer reduce stats below 30% of the original stats. Hence this tactic is not a viable option anymore for an instakill.

  • Therefore, Leviathan DEF can be reduced as low as 937.8 (30% of his original 3126 DEF).

Anti-Ice Capsules & Levitation Edit

For each Anti-Ice Capsule chained, all party members take reduced Ice damage by 10% for five turns. This stacks additively, so two capsules will result in a 20% reduction, and five capsules will make your party 50% resistant to Ice. Up to five capsules can be on the battlefield at once, waiting to be consumed. Leviathan, unlike Bahamut, will not clear your Ice resistance, so stacking as many capsules as you can will reduce much of the damage you take on this stage.

Three characters have the capsule ability:

Levitation on this stage allows the player to totally ignore the mechanics of Maelstrom, which negates the damage and negates the confusion that comes with it.

Many characters have access to Levitation, All (to protect the whole party):

If you do bring a levitation character, whenever Levitation is chained, the Conchio's Mines will rise out of the ground and explode, potentially damaging many members on your team. So, avoid chaining your levitation character if there are mines on the ground, or if you do, make sure everyone is out of its Cross (All) attack.

Another additional character that can deal ice damage is needed to break Leviathan's barrier. Without an ice-character, the fight will take 10 times longer. Any character that deals ice damage is fine, since it just takes 16 hits from ice attacks, but a character like Zan can also deal fire damage to offset the ice damage.

This is the standard way to kill Leviathan Omega, by following his pattern, and stacking up Anti-Ice Capsules so you can survive Icicle. Additional characters that do Fire damage are recommended (Amazora, O'pari, Bahamut, etc.). Also, strong physical damage dealers can work as well, but they have a higher chance to die to Icicle or other ice attacks if not enough capsules are used.

Lastly, it's a good idea to kill most of the starting minions. Leaving one minion alive means Leviathan won't summon reinforcements, and the best enemy to leave alive is Selena, as she only does ice damage, but it's easily mitigated with your capsule stacking. Be careful when using AoE attacks.

With that, it's just a fight of attrition: keeping ice capsules stacked, using power points, and double pincering Leviathan.

Overall, the team should look like:

  • Capsule user
  • Levitation user
  • Ice user
  • healer
  • additional damage dealer
  • additional damage dealer/healer/Clarity user

AlternativesEdit

There's a few alternatives if you can't field all of the required abilities.

The first is O'pari's Ice Dmg Down, Adjacent, which can help characters survive Icicle without Ice Capsules. This requires Levitation, as most characters will die while confused to the following Absolute Zero Breath, 1 Column without ice protection.

The second is Metupi providing extra magic defense to your levitation user (and Nakupi for Fire users). This will ensure your levitation user survives after Icicle to protect you from Maelstrom. Most Fire-damage dealers have their own Anti-Ice Shield, and better magic defense to possibly survive Icicle.

As for substitutes for Levitation: characters with Evasive Arts (Lunaken, Lunato, Olber) can buff other characters to avoid some damage from Maelstrom (but it won't avoid the confusion). Lastly, it's possible to field a team that can survive Maelstrom and the following attack by relying on Regen (Palpa, and many others) and combined with a healer with Heal x1.5, All. Stacking those two buffs can allow regen to heal over 3000 HP per turn. Regen will always heal even if players are confused and your turn is skipped.

Magic Defense -20%, Area (1) Edit

One farmable character, Red Starwhip (RSW), has this ability at level 30. This method is very frustrating and is not recommended for most people, but if you don't have access to the above methods, this is the only way to kill Leviathan without using Energy. RSW is a very fragile C-class monster and usually will die to anything. Also, in addition to RSW, you have to have a source of non-ice damage. A mage is preferred, but an elemental attacker can be substituted, but you'll have to be wary of skill activations to ensure Leviathan Omega dies at the right time. A healer with revive is recommended in case RSW dies on the way to Leviathan.

The setup is a bit harder compared to Grace, since the debuff requires RSW to be next to Leviathan. However, this isn't as difficult as the luck required with Bahamut Omega.

  1. On your first turn, you'll want to laterally double pincer Leviathan with Red Starwhip in the lineup; in addition, you'll want to chain RSW to a third pincer with one of the adds on the screen. This gives Leviathan -60% Magic Defense. You can kill all of the minions if possible, since confusion may cause issues. (Older videos will show that the Fisheye needs to be disabled, but that is no longer necessary).
  2. On the second turn, you'll want to double pincer Leviathan and chain a non-ice mage to kill Leviathan after RSW applies its second debuff. The order of the pincers is important, because the mage has to attack after RSW (or elemental attacker), or else it won't work. Typically this means that the mage isn't pincering Leviathan, and ideally the first pincer shouldn't involve RSW. If you're using an elemental attacker, RSW must pincer with your elemental attacker, and RSW has to be to the left (if laterally pincering) or on the bottom (if vertically pincering); and this pincer has to go second. (Older videos show that a triple pincer with RSW was necessary for the kill due to the barrier, but that is no longer the case since Patch 2.1.0.)

After five activations of RSW in two turns, Leviathan's Magic Defense will be 0, and non-ice magical damage will cause effectively infinite damage. Before Patch 2.1.0 changed the rounding method of debuffs to favor the player, RSW needed to active six times for infinite damage, although it was possible to kill Levithan in 5 activations with a lot of Magic Attack buffs.

NOTE: with update 4.0.0, stat reduction skills will no longer reduce stats below 30% of the original stats. Hence this tactic is not a viable option anymore for an instakill.

  • Therefore, Leviathan MDEF can be reduced as low as 389.7 (30% of his original 1299 MDEF).
